Since AMD presented some very interesting low-budget CPUs lately, next good question is: which motherboard should you purchase with that CPU? We decided to review all AM2/AM2+ motherboards with price tag between 50€ and 70€ because we believe that some of those motherboards can be very good choice especially for new Athlon II CPUs. Except price, there was another feature that all motherboards should have: support for DDR2 memory. Since we are choosing motherboard for a budget PC and DDR2 memory is cheaper and offers similar performances to DDR3, it was logical choice. So, let’s get cracking.

BIOSTAR is one of the biggest manufacturers when it comes to AMD base small factor motherboards. This model is based on AMD 785G chipset, has 128MB Sideport memory and supports CPUs with TDP up to 125W. However, before we sink our teeth into this motherboard let’s reflect on AMD 758G chipset and its market position.

Foxconn is one of those brands that, willingly or not, you have to respect. Since Foxconn is manufacturing a lot of components (such as DIMM slots, PCIe slots, connectors etc) that are used by companies such as ASUS, GigaByte, DFI etc, you could say that every motherboard is one part made by Foxconn. Foxconn didn’t pay too much attention at high-end motherboard models and almost all Foxconn motherboard models were very much like an OEM product. Times have changed, gamers and overclockers got very demanding, and a lot of dust got kicked up by this IT population. Obviously, Foxconn needed strong sub-brand for that market segment, much like ASUS ROG (Republic Of Gamers). So, Foxconn Quantum Force was created, and this time we got BloogRage GTI X58 model in our test lab. This motherboard has “aggressive” name, and there is a good reason for that.

In our test lab arrived very interesting motherboard signed by BIOSTAR. Actually it is not just another motherboard, but very interesting one. Its official name is 945GC-330 and it has integrated graphics card, LAN and sound card which isn’t that big deal, but integrated CPU is. This motherboard is based on Intel Atom CPU and it is made in Mini-ITX size (17x17cm or 6.7x6.7inches). This means that you can make a “desktop” configuration based on Atom CPU, but let’s start from the beginning.

BIOSTAR TPower X58A Few months ago we reviewed BIOSTAR TPower X58 model that was very good product without “fancy” features as some high-end models have, but still very interesting product. This time BIOSTAR sent us model that can be described as “striped down” version of TPower X58 model. New model is TPower X58A and this review will focus on differences between these two very similar motherboard for Core i7.

After Rampage II Extreme motherboard ASUS engineers couldn’t sit still and they surprised us with another top-quality motherboard but in many senses completely different from its predecessor. Since high-class users and overclockers were “covered” by Extreme edition this time ASUS created something very different: motherboard in microATX format. Before this motherboard, microATX format was reserved for motherboards with very limited features that were used as base for brand configurations. ASUS with Rampage II GENE is changing this perception of microATX format.

Last year ASUS presented M3A79T Deluxe motherboard based on AMD 790FX chipset that proved itself as a great piece of hardware: almost flawless, quality built, very fast, reliable and good overclocking material. This time we are presenting to you its successor that is also based on AMD 790FX chipset but this time with support for DDR3 memory and AM3 Phenom II CPUs. Previous motherboards that we tested and were also based on 790FX chipset with support for DDR3 and AM3 Phenom II CPUs are Gigabyte and Foxconn models but since those had beta BIOS we didn’t manage to show you all advantages of new Phenom II CPUs in combination with DDR3 memory.

We met earlier with WorkStation motherboards from ASUS . All WorkStation ASUS motherboards are high-class models that offer maximum possibilities and performances but the price that has to be paid for that commodity is high also. ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution has a price tag over 300€ so you shouldn’t be surprised that this model is intended for building workstations and top-notch gaming rigs. Motherboard is based on X58 chipset and as you can see from the pictures it has 6 (six) PCIe 2.0 x16 slots.

BIOSTAR motherboards are known for their price/performance ratio thanks to which BIOSTAR motherboards won InsideHW Best Buy Award few times. This result BIOSTAR achieved by using second best chipset, that can be found on the market at the moment (P965, P35, P45), on their motherboards instead of using the best and the priciest (X965, X35, X45). This time BIOSTAR applied different approach and they built new motherboard on eXtreme chipset. Of course we are talking about advanced X58 chipset. How well did BIOSTAR rise to the challenge you can find out if you continue reading our review.

Last time when we tested Intel Core i7 CPU (Nehalem) we used Intel DX58SO Smackover motherboard. This time we will test motherboard designed for overclokers that want to squeeze maximum out of their Nehalem CPU. Motherboard is manufactured by ASUS and it belongs to ROG (Republic Of Gamers) series. According to ASUS reputation this motherboard dictates new standards when it comes to Intel Core i7 motherboards. Despite dimensions of motherboard packaging itself, label “Designed for Overlocking” also suggests that this package holds something special inside.
