According to leaked information, Intel will offer an eight-core CPU in its Haswell-E lineup expected in the second half of next year. According to VR-Zone, Haswell-E will see Intel move away from four-core configurations of GPU-less dies and offer a choice of six- and eight-core CPUs with up to 20 MB of L3 cache. Maximum TDP for these 22nm Hi-k processors is said to be in the range of 130W and 140W. Haswell-E will apparently also bring support for DDR4 as well as Intel's new Wellsburg mobo chipsets. Wellsburg in turn will support up to six USB 3.0 ports, up to eight USB 2.0 ports, up to 10 SATA 6 Gbps ports, Integrated Clock support, and a TDP of 6.5W.

Google has started project Loon, baloon powered Internet for everyone. Project Loon is a network of balloons designed to connect people in rural and remote areas. Balloons travel around 20 km above the Earth’s surface in the stratosphere. Winds in the stratosphere are generally steady and slow-moving at between 5 and 20 mph, and each layer of wind varies in direction and magnitude. Project Loon uses software algorithms to determine where its balloons need to go, then moves each one into a layer of wind blowing in the right direction. By moving with the wind, the balloons can be arranged to form one large communications network.

The launch of the next Google Nexus 7 tablet should not be far, market researcher IHS told CNET. According to that source, Japan Display Inc. and AUO are expected to make the display for the next-gen Nexus 7, while Quanta will make the tablet itself. The next Nexus 7 is expected to support a 1920 x 1200 display, with a pixel density of 323 pixels per inch. It is expected that this tablet will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor rather than the NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor on-board its predecessor. Digitimes web site said Thursday that the upcoming Nexus 7 tablets should be available in retail by July. A 16GB version is expected to be priced at US$229.
