It seemed that an eternity will pass before the DVD standard has a suitable inheritor. The two opposing “camps” didn't manage to find a common language, so they went out on the market separately, thus forcing both companies and users to choose the side they support. While the HD-DVD initially seemed to be the winner, things look a lot different nowadays.

 

Just like in box matches, Blu-ray pushed its opponent in the corner and started to inflict hit after hit. The last of these in the row, and certainly the hardest in the past year, is the decision of the famous Blockbuster chain on 17th June to concentrate on providing films on Blu-ray discs.
