For many years, Verbatim is one of the leading names in the data storage industry. They are mostly recognized by their high quality and remarkably designed products. This time, we got Verbatim 500GB Portable Hard Drive for testing. Yes, 500GB means that it has 500GB of disk capacity.
Packaging of this hard drive looks like most of Verbatim flash memory packages, only a bit larger. Through transparent plastics you can see grey colored device, with really elegant design. After we opened the package we found USB cable and manual. USB cable has two connectors so if power from one USB port is not enough, this device can use another USB port for additional power.

Device is pretty much light weighted and it weighs only 164 grams. Around device edges blue LED lighted plastics are placed, which gives nice visual experience. When you take this hard drive in your hand, plastics can make some noise. This happens because of passive cooling solution which caused little cut-outs on device edges. Devise didn’t overheat, moreover, in room with 25 degrees of Celsius, it wasn’t warm at all. Dimensions of entire device are 135x85x25 mm, so it can be placed in a shirt pocket, or smaller hand-bag. HDD platter spins on 5400 rotations per minute (rpm).
Thanks to dimensions, build quality and most of all capacity Verbatim 500GB Portable Hard Drive towers above the competition. If you need to carry a lot of data with yourself this Verbatim Portable Hard Drive can be true a revelation and even if you don’t have such needs maybe you will find it very useful.
