ImageAttracting customers is these days very important task for any company, especially on overcrowded PC market of external hard disks. Company Prestigio managed to produce series of external storage devices under the brand Data Safe that has caught a lot of attention. This was achieved by unusual design that was inspired by art and style. New series of external hard disks, Prestigio Data Safe III, comes with wide range of capacities that can reach up to 500GB. Model that we tested had 250GB.

New Data Safe III looks, above all, luxurious and elegant. This can be applied even to the packaging. This time black and gold are colors that dominate and create sensation of luxury and elegance. This model is one of those products that can be a perfect gift for a person that needs to be impressed.

Packaging itself is designed in form of two joined drawers that open on opposite sides. In one is device and in other handbag and USB cables.  Device isn’t big but the weight is something that cannot be unnoticed (250gr). Casing is made out of firm plastics with frame made out of metal alloy colored in gold. On front side are present two LEDs: power status and disk activity. On top side are located On/Off button, one-touch backup button and miniUSB port. Problem that we had with power button may be characteristic of our sample but we should mention it anyway. Power button is relatively small and hard to move into On position so either nail or pencil had to be used for powering the device. This way button can get damaged easily so pay attention to that detail when purchasing Data Safe III. Another small detail that was totally unnecessary was little golden tag with Prestigio logo on it that should be attached to device.

Model of Prestigio Data Safe III that we got in our test lab had 2.5 inch 250GB Serial ATA-150 hard disk. Manufacturer occupied 90Mb of that space for PDF manual and additional software. For connection with PC, miniUSB connector is very good choice since it is de-facto standard for this type of devices. Because of this and low power consumption, hard disk that is used for this model, no additional power adapter is needed and it can work on most operating systems without additional drivers.

We already mentioned additional software that is present on this external storage and can provide additional functionality. SecureDriveEX can be used for creation of additional partition that will be protected by password. This is very useful option that can provide additional security for your data. PCCloneEX can be used for fully automated backup of data from your notebook or desktop configuration. All you need to do is install that software on target computer and after that backup can be done simply by pressing Copy button on your Data Safe III disk.

Both applications that we mentioned are Windows compatible and Linux and Mac OS are not supported but disk will work as any other external storage on all operating systems. In some cases Linux users will be prompted for root access but that isn’t a real problem.
