Beside Satellite A300 and P300 notebook series, Toshiba also released on market redesigned Satellite L series. We will introduce you with all novelties through testing of model Toshiba Satellite L300-11G. L series didn’t experience that much cosmetic changes like new A and P series did. We could even say that Satellite L300 is less “fancy” than its predecessor. Some of us will count that as big plus because L300 has above all “neutral” design.

Launch of nVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 280 brought a huge enthusiasm in last two months, but it already begun to fade. The main “culprit” is ATi which showed to all of us that even when hard times come they are continuing with good work as if competition isn't a problem and as confirmation of their efforts we got incredible new generation of graphics cards. The whole story started with great Radeon HD 4850 and continued with HD 4870 that had GDDR5 memory. After great critics for these two GPUs, ATi was aware that they shouldn’t stop there, if they want to overthrown nVIDIA from the top performance throne. And they did it…

This time we introduce to you three devices from Level 1, which cover different target user groups: WBR-3460A, WBR-3408 and WAP-0006. WBR-3460 is ADSL/ADSL2+ router, WBR-3408 is Wireless AP Broadband router and WAP-0006 is Wireless LAN. So, something for everyone. Let's see...

Engineers from ASUS took into account every little detail while designing Crosshair II Formula motherboard and by taking a closer look at layout it is obvious that they didn’t economize with components integrated into this motherboard. This had big impact on final price tag for this motherboard but all this doesn’t guarantee that configuration based on this motherboard will work flawlessly and be able to satisfy needs of every overclocker out there.

Biostar introduced “office version” of motherboard based on “office” AMD RS740 chipset. Graphics core is based on RV410, identical graphics core as for AMD RD690 chipset. DX10 is not supported, which isn’t a big problem because there isn’t any integrated graphics that can run DX10 games with decent framerate yet.

Most users who can afford to have large bandwidth internet without a download limit transformed their computers into genuine small servers. The main characteristic of such users is to use their bandwidth mostly to transfer, or download, data, and especially so during the night, when they can dedicate the entirety of their connection to downloading. In these cases, many people are bothered by the noise their computers make if they are located in the same room, while noise-reducing solutions inevitably cost money. Of course, power consumption is also to take into consideration. If, besides all this, a need for local distribution of data is added to the equation, a need for a new solution arises.
OvisLink, the manufacturer we recently presented when reviewing their wireless router, presented a product which should help users in situations like the ones mentioned. OvisLink AirLive WMU-6500FS offers a case for a 3.5” SATA or IDE hard disk and enables the user to connect to it via LAN cable or by wireless. On the left side of the aluminium casing there are a couple of USB ports for connecting additional devices, an Ethernet port and an SMA connector for a 2 dbi antenna (part of the bundle). On the PCB itself there is a miniPCI slot with a 802.11g Turbo-G (125 mbps) card, IDE/SATA chips, 4 MB of flash memory (OS), 32 MB RAM and a 32-bit RISC processor.
In order to use the bandwidth provided by the 802.11g standard to the maximum extent, you need compatible devices on the “other side” as well. The right side of the device has LEDs which notify the user about the current state of the device, i.e. ongoing operations. You will also receive a basic manual in the package, while a more detailed one (covering the topics of web administration etc.) is located in the .pdf file on the CD.
The hard disk is, naturally, not a part of the package, but the support for both HDD interfaces is what matters. The disk is easily placed inside the case, secured with two screws, and as soon as you connect the necessary cables, you're set to go. After connecting it to your computer (or vice versa), the 6500FS can be used as a NAS (network attached storage) device. This isn't truly something that separates this device from the rest of them, but OvisLink made an additional effort and integrated a BitTorrent download client and the possibility of setting up an iTunes server as well.
After you install the necessary software, a standard web configuration procedure is required. AirLive 6500FS can be integrated into the already existing network or use as a separate access point. After the initial configuration is done, the HDD and all other advanced options are accessible. It is possible to format the hard drive through web administration application, as well as have simple manipulation over existing files. Once everything is set up, all the options can be backed up to a single file, which can then be used to avoid the setup process again, should any problems appear.
The most interesting options are located under the “Download Assistant” menu, as the BitTorrent client and the HTTP/FTP modes are all located there. All that is required is that you set the download/upload limits, upload the .torrent file from the computer to the device itself and initiate it. The router will begin downloading, and also offers a neat option of sending an e-mail upon reaching 100%, which can come in handy if you don't want to check the download status too often.
Naturally, once the download has started, you can shut down your PC completely. The HTTP/FTP modes work in a similar fashion, but, unfortunately, you cannot use the device as an HTTP/FTP server. We had no trouble whatsoever with any of the device functions. Some may find the 2 dbi antenna too weak, but it can be easily replaced with a more powerful one. When used intensively, the hard disk becomes quite hot, so we are somewhat disappointed that OvisLink didn't implement a fan inside the case, although there is room for a 40 mm one. Luckily, you can install the fan yourself, and thus extend the working period of the HDD inside the case.
AirLive WMU-6500FS is obviously targeting users who constantly download content from the net, although it can also be used as a backup device or a basic local file sharing server. When we add the price to all of the aforementioned possibilities the device offers, there is no choice but to award it.
