If you would heard term “illuminati” and “alchemy” we are pretty sure that first association for many of you would be Dan Brown and one of his bestselling novels. For those of you that are familiar with OCZ Technology products, Alchemy series of keyboards is well known and this time we are presenting you Illuminati model that got its name because of back lighted keys. Because of this feature typing in pitch darkness, but thanks to side LEDs it can also provide illumination to surrounding area. Light can be blue or red and this can also be set using one of the buttons on keyboard. Of course light can be turned off or dimmed using a knob located in right corner.
This ultra-slim keyboard is thickest in palm rest area. Key have shallow keystrokes, around 2 mm, and feeling is slightly “rigid” so you should make an “extra” effort while typing, but this also prevents accidental typing errors. All keys are coated with rubber and this makes this keyboard one of the best when it comes to tactile feeling. In the package we got additional key. While keyboard had key “3” with “#” symbol on it, additional key had “3” with pound (£) symbol so UK user can customize this keyboard according to their needs.
Illuminati has also multimedia and web keys that are positioned at both sides. Signaling LE diodes are located at lower right corner, besides illumination control knob. These LEDs are very bright so in dark this can be potential problem, and even on a bright sunny day those LEDs were noticeable.
Conclusion
Final verdict is: very good. This keyboard isn’t meant to be used by users that type whole day long at home or office, but for gamers it is perfect choice. It can blend itself in almost any gaming ambient and even contribute to its exclusivity.
