Mustek Scan Express A3 USB 1200 Pro PDF Print

ImageScanners as home devices are somehow disregarded. Home users that have needs for scanning are rare, so it’s no wonder why those peripherals are not too much interesting for reviewing. On the other hand, scanner usage for business purpose is actually quite necessary, but classic scanners lost even that battle because of multifunctional devices. However, there is one scanner category that can find target user group, which cannot be “covered” with multifunctional devices. We are talking about scanners with bigger scan surfaces – A3 scanners.

Mustek is well-known as manufacturer of cheap peripherals for PC, so the same analogy can be used for scanners also. Mustek Scan Express A3 USB 1200 PRO is attended for home users that are a little bit more demanding, but it is also suitable for small enterprises with moderate needs for scanning documents bigger than A4. So, Mustek find its place right there. From its name we already know that optical resolution is 1200x1200dpi (this resolution is reserved for “entry” scanner models, where Mustek Scan Express A3 USB 1200 PRO belongs to). Frankly, if you need bigger resolution there is a possibility of software interpolating up to resolution of 9200x9200dpi. For every day scanning of text documents and for archiving analog photographs, provided optical resolutions will be more than enough.

General fault of all scanners is that they intend to occupy too much working space. For A3 models, like this one, that problem is even more dominant, so it’s necessary to provide adequate place for it. Interesting detail on this scanner is its cover that can be completely separated from base. Separation is possible because of two wedges that connect cover with base, removing them (which is very easy) you enable scanning of objects of any weight and height.

Supported color modes are 48-bit or 24-bit (16.7 million colors) and monochrome that can be 16-bit (16K shades of gray color) or 8-bit (256 shades of gray). Inserting documents for scanning must be done manually and scan speed is at expected lower level. LED lamp is used for illumination of scanned material.
There are no keys on scanner (not even power button/switch for turning it on/off) and whole control process is done through software. Interesting thing is that software that goes with this scanner didn’t change a bit (visually and functionally) for at least five years. Luckily, that isn’t the case with drivers that provide support even for Vista and 64-bit XP. Maybe Scan Express 1200 Pro isn’t the best or fastest A3 scanner on the market but it serves its purpose. This is cheap multipurpose scanner that does its job correctly. And that is probably most important.
