According to standard categorization this portable computer is classified to DTR (DeskTop Replacement) category. It means that due to its all-round, it will easily satisfy wide range of users. We are used to that DTR models have solid graphics card, but properties offered by Satellite A100-847 will satisfy even more demanding players. Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 with its 256 MB memory and excellent performances (for portable category) guarantee hours of good fun with latest hits from video games industry.
To be more precise, graphics card guarantees, but not basic computer memory. Embedded 512 MB is quite good for comfortable operation and playing older games, but newer one will require at least half gigabyte more of RAM. It is sufficient to say for processor that it belongs to Core 2 Duo family. Apart from successful "feeding" of graphics card with data, it is more than sufficient for demanding application. Noise and heating of notebooks are almost negligible, which is quite a pleasant surprise for this class.
Quite a wonder, chronicle illness of major part of models tested within the last year, bypassed Toshiba Satellite A100-847. Screen we encountered is more than good, with wide proportions adjusted to watching movies. Good side of Toshiba´s portable computer was and still is speakers, signed by firm Harman/Kardon. Multimedia enjoy will be complete with them. Keyboard is a bit controversy; opinions of redaction staff were divided, regarding impressions related to typing. Still, most of the people liked it, so we can agree that A100-847 gets a small plus for this.

Toshiba puts a lot of effort in the accompanying software, so this model has a few useful additions. ConfigFree will help you to easily and fast adjust wireless connection, as well as to make connection to other Bluetooth devices. Express Media Player enables watching movies from DVD without starting operative system. Unfortunately, DivX format, as well as audio DVD is not supported.
DTR notebooks and other autonomy traditionally do not have a lot of affection for each other, and Satellite A100-847 proves it. We have the impression that it is not excessively related to components, but with manufacturer’s decision to save on few battery cells. We do not like this decision, although we may have been subjective, because battery emptied during journey only few minutes before the end of movie we were watching. |
