Emerge of Intel’s Centrino platform marked the beginning of huge breakthrough of portable computers. Mainly owing to Centrino, developed countries record almost equal number of sold desktop and portable computers. Of course, not everything went well. Enormous funds were invested in marketing which, for starters had to eliminate prejudice regarding direct connection of processor operating speed and its performances, pursuant insist of Intel up to this point. With its advance architecture, Pentium M managed to compensate difference in Megahertz comparing to popular Pentium 4.

Main advantage brought by Pentium M was reduced consumption, owing to which notebooks become thinner and slighter (less heat dissipation – smaller and lighter cooling system, with significantly improved autonomy). It turned out to be a right move and Intel took leadership position on the market of portable computers. Integration of wireless adapter into Centrino platform contributed to increased popularity of wireless network and speeded up the development of this technology.
