asus_ul30a_intro2.jpgImageQuick view of the specifications suggest that the Asus UL30A is another accessible model in a series of small notebooks based on Intel CULV processors. A little closer study reveals that the list of components is not all that common, but after a few seconds of work it is obvious that UL30A differs from the competition for several very important parameters. However, the UL label itself, which comes from the word "Unlimited", sounds promising.

Brushed aluminum cover clearly shows that it's a quality construction, and the test that consists of a strong pressing cover this laptop passed with a high grade because the image distortion that occured was minimal. While the rest is made of plastic, the strength of the whole structure is at a high level.

The housing is done in a combination of gray and black, and the combined mat (cover) and glossy surface (around the keyboard and support for hands). Part of the great gray plastic has a discrete pattern that fingerprints are neupadljivijim. Asus UL30A has excellent balanced design for which can be a nice fit with the image of business people and ordinary users which is an attractive look important.

Pretty large "chiclet" keyboard is characterized by spaced keys with a slightly shorter and heavier feel, to what you'll quickly get used. Warping under pressure can be classified in the category of "negligible", and the overall impression is favorable.

Touchpad is composed of a series of hole in the plane with the rest of the casing, so you can easily miss it while working. Asus UL30A has the Elan Smart-Pad touchpad , below it there is a single, unusually long button, while the click is pretty loud as the pressure is close to the middle of this key.

The left button above the keyboard launches Express Gate mini OS, and if you are already in Windows, it's used to change modes Power4Gear work. Opposite of it, there is the Power button, which is the same shape and differs only by the discreet label, and you may initially happen to press the wrong key.

The screen is 13.3 inches in diagonally and has descent characteristics, although there is the impression that the contrast could be slightly higher. Vertical viewing angle is not large, which comes into focus if you work in a tighter space, because the angle of opening the lid the screen is quite small, which makes it difficult to find the ideal position.

Altec Lansing speakers impress with strength and for that matter they can be compared with those that are installed in more expensive and larger multimedia laptops. The problem is that you will be able to enjoy it's power only when it comes to middle and high tones, because there are no low levels. Position of the speakers (the bottom near the front part) negatively affects the sound.

Faster than the competition

If you decided to peek into the interior of the laptop, there are more or less standard components for this class, with one honorable exception. Most notebooks with Intel CULV have a cheap Celeron 723 processor at 1.2 GHz, and only rare models have singlecore Core 2 Solo at 1.4 GHz. Asus UL30A has a dualcore Core 2 Duo at 1.3 GHz, and his performance is obviously much better than most competitors. Given the low clock speed of CULV processor, one core is relatively easy to overload, so the presence of two cores is very easy to feel even in everyday usage. If you find that it's not enough, the processor has a simple setting in BIOS that can overclock it by five percent. Graphic card is Intel integrated X4500MHD, and the last part of the label says it is able to assume part of the job when the system is decoding HD video, which leaves space to performing other tasks at the same time.

The system is equipped with 4 GB of DDR3 memory, and utilization of all resources is enabled by 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium. In addition to this, 64-bit Windows has other advantages. As an example we mention that we are using 64-bit versions of Cinebench rendering test which achieved acceleration of about 13 percent. Heating of the case is very small, only in part of the palm rest and it. It should be noted that the cooling system does its job very quietly.
