ASUS X59GL is, as we mentioned earlier, based on NVIDIA chipset. NVIDIA 8200 chipset is built as the answer at AMD PUMA platform with integrated HD 3200 graphics card. GeForce 8200, integrated graphics adapter of NVIDIA 8200 chipset, is when it comes to performances somewhere in between Intel X4500 and AMD HD 3200 integrated graphics solution. This means that ASUS X59GL is intended for used that are not interested that much into games. Also ASUS X59GL-AP138 is one of cool notebooks in terms of achieved temperature levels when we tested it. This is expected from a notebook that is based on Intel CPU and NVIDIA graphics card. The upper surface stayed cool for the whole time, until we didn’t register significant heating up of bottom surface either.

Picture quality is average even though display has small vertical viewing angle. In this price range these are expected characteristics. Webcam has nice frame rate but at the same time a lot of color noise. Application from CD will provide a lot of fun with this camera to younger users and for all you out there that feel young at heart.  Interesting detail is that this notebook doesn’t have modem but we got modem cable in package.

As most modern ASUS notebook X59GL offers Express Gate as fast and reliable solution for internet access only 10-15 seconds after pressed power button (Vista is not loaded). Interesting detail is that this notebook is detected by BIOS as F5GL model. This shouldn’t surprise you since X59GL is actually F5GL packed into different chassis with differences only in domain of exterior design. This is the reason why you should panic because of lack of information about ASUS X59GL model on official ASUS site. Similar situation is also for X59SR – F5SR models.
