ImageFinally, we had tested Acer Aspire 6920G after Acer’s announcement for new Aspire Gemstone notebooks in March this year. Black cover in “piano” finish looks very elegant despite our first thought of greasy fingerprints all over it. At some point, I even thought that I am too subjective, so I asked my colleagues what they think and we finally agree that fingertips are less noticeable than on other notebooks with similar finishing process. In the middle of notebook cover is logo which lights up when notebook is on.

Just a look on Aspire 6920G is enough to know that it really stands out from the crowd. First, display looks widened, regarding to unusual proportions and size. Diagonal of 16 inch (not seen so far) and native resolution of 1366x768 makes it wide screen with 16:9 ratio (this wide range is appropriate for watching movies). Although Aspire 6920G doesn’t have a perfect screen, progress in Acer’s technology is definitely noticeable. If we consider the fact that this model isn’t too expensive for performances that achieves (price around 960€), we can only be more than satisfied with display. What we didn’t like is possibility of opening notebook cover only up to approximately 140°. You will also need to buy appropriate bag for notebook, we did try and I must say, succeed to put notebook into bag designed for 15.4’’ notebooks, but we recommend you, if you decide to buy this notebook, to buy adequate bag.

CineDash

CineDash is name that often will be mentioned in the future. It is related to multimedia interface that is sensitive on touch. We did see these types of commands already, but they weren’t this much accented and rich in all sorts of options. It’s obvious intention to position Acer Aspire 6920G as home entertainment center if we take a look at CineDash size.

It takes rather large area left from keyboard and makes easier multimedia adjustments and moving through menus. You can hardly feel “dashes” on its smooth surface under your fingertips for locating commands, without taking a good look where is your finger. Volume is easily spotted thanks to bluish light below appropriate active part of CineDash. CineDash reacts on commands with a little “lag”, but it still won’t spoil your working enjoyment. Precision is at satisfied level, and if you use it carefully you can expect no problems, but for nonchalant usage CineDash will not react on every touch. Anyway, we don’t talk about some mass phenomenon that should urge you from not using CineDash. If you are, by any chance, afraid of accidental activation of functions on CineDash (during typing or some other serious work) that can cause you some problems, Acer thought of that and provided button for turning off CineDash.
There is no enjoyment in multimedia without good quality sound. With Aspire 6920G Acer moved sound quality up another notch and as result we have unexpected sound quality and above all high sound level. Sound from this notebook is comparable to Toshiba’s notebooks with Harman Kardon speakers. Beside two standard sound speakers this sound quality is achieved thanks to presence of Acer Tuba CineBass booster which is responsible for reproduction of low frequency sound. Power of this “subwoofer” is 10W which is more than enough for notebooks. For users that seek more than this, Acer integrated also an 5.1 output for connecting external speakers and maximum sound quality enjoyment.
