ASUS_F50Sv_into2.jpgImageToday’s insatiable notebook market can always make room for another new model, and ASUS is producing new models almost on weekly bases. This time we present you model from ASUS Versatile Performance series (or, for rest of us something in between gaming and multimedia): F50Sv. Interesting and modern design, quality build and very decent performances are main characteristic or this model.

Strait away we should mention that this model doesn’t offer anything new or spectacular. Only real novelty is NVIDIA GeForce GT120M graphics card, while the rest of configuration is, more or less, already seen. Of course, most important factor of any notebook is: how those components are assembled and configured, and how much does it all costs.

As we already mentioned ASUS F50Sv has modern design that ASUS named “Infusion”. Cover is made out of gray plastic with horizontal stripes, and it resembles the design that Toshiba promoted on their A300 and P300 models but they used curved lines, while ASUS uses horizontal on cover and combination of horizontal and curved on palm rest area. Above keyboard is located “chromed” stripe that “hides” 5 additional buttons: Express Gate, Hybrid Power Engine, Internet Explorer, Touchpad control and power button.

Build quality is above average in this class of products. Our favorite cover rigidity test (pressing the center of the cover with one finger as hard as possible) didn’t result with any anomalies on displayed picture, which is a good sign. Similar test was conducted on chassis (twisting it with hands on both sides) with similar results: no noises were generated. This implies that quality plastic was used and that it is fitted nicely.

Keyboard has numeric pad, like on ASUS N50Vn with right cursor key taking place of half of the zero key on numeric pad. We don’t know if someone from ASUS is reading this, but, we have to point this out: This is NOT a good solution for right cursor key problem on smaller keyboard with numeric pad. The rest of keyboard is very good and allows fast and comfortable typing. Touch pad is precise and nicely incorporated in palm rest area.

Connector layout is little bit strange for contemporary standards, but we do like it, as a matter fact. In last year it become frequent to see covers that, when opened, cover back side, but on this model “old” school” hinges were used. What’s more, there are three hinges, which is nice. So, at backside are present one USB, VGA and HDMI connectors. No connectors are present on the right side (only optical drive tray can be found there) while on the left side are located the rest of connectors.

Sixteen-inch glare display with 1366x768 resolution has above average viewing angles but “just” average sharpness. For a 16-inch display, this resolution is little bit small so it will be good solution for users that like larger GUI elements with larger dialog/menu fonts. In addition, this allows gamers to play games in full native resolution without too much problems.
