Cooler Master Hyper Z600

Most users are irritated with noise that their computer makes. Therefore, we can find on the market numerous “silent” solutions that will solve that particular problem. Yet, there is always “BUT”. With summer heats on the way it is just impossible to cool your processor with passive cooler. But, Cooler Master has a solution even to this problem. ...

780G Chipset Motherboards Roundup

Since the number of motherboards based on AMD 780G chipset gets bigger and bigger, we decided to compare them forthright and to identify possible differences. Popularity of this chipset is shown in accessibility of motherboard based on it, superb integrated graphics and few more useful options. This kind of systems are great for multimedia computers because 780G will provide for this type of machines enough performances and of course, like any ATi, good display of colors.   ...

Kingston DataTraveler HyperX

We get used to test fast RAM memories from Kingston Company. Hyper X brand was, until now, associated with fastest RAM modules. Still, Kingston decided to utilize this very recognisable brand on other Kingston products. So, thanks to that we were introduced to Kingston DataTravel HyperX USB flash memory. Of course, right from the start, we figured that we got one very fast device (brand name can tell you a lot), but we couldn’t know, how fast... ...

Force3D ATi HD4870

Radeon HD4800 series of graphics cards is real refreshment in these days. Every new generation of GPU brought a big shift in performances and ATi this time showed us that top model graphics chip (RV770) doesn’t have to be expensive. Based on experience from previous HD3850 and HD3870 models, we expected that new model HD4870 will dominate in middle-high class, with lower price and higher performances than other competitors. But, we were wrong… Tests showed something quite unexpected. Still, before benchmark results let’s see what new GPU offers. ...

ImageWhenever the subject of vacuum tube amplifiers is brought up, it is most likely that someone is discussing expensive hi-fi audio equipment. SonicGear brought this category of amplifiers to the computer world. Their i-Steroid 2.1 system represents a unique attempt at integrating “old-fashioned” vacuum tubes into the cold electronics and high-tech world. The name itself is obviously an allusion to iPod players and that becomes even more obvious by taking a glance at the device itself.

The subwoofer was designed just like an iPod player, with controls placed neatly into the center of the surface (emulating the iPod control system), while the “screen” area is simulated by an opening in case. Besides the obvious iPod look-alike effect, these openings, which there are four of (on each side of the subwoofer) plus perforated upper side, have the purpose of providing ventilation for the vacuum tube in the center, since it can get quite hot under load. Since the tube is shining when the system is on, a nice visual effect is achieved as well.

The subwoofer is made of wood, but with a plasticized cover layer, while the speaker is directed to the floor in order to achieve equal spreading of sound in all directions in a room. The back of the subwoofer contains connectors for the satellites (manufactured in the same fashion as the subwoofer, and same goes for the remote as well) and two additional audio inputs, which means that two separate devices can be connected to this system at the same time. This is a common feature on all high-quality sound systems, but SonicGear inserted another interesting detail here. These two inputs have different amplification levels. One is meant to be used with devices which already have a built-in amplifier, such as CD/DVD players, computers etc, where the other one is targeting mp3/mp4 players, iPods and so on. Therefore, user should pay attention which connector will he use for a particular device. No one is stopping you from using any of these two, but proper usage yields best results in sound volume.
