Dolphin is waterproof mp3 player primarily designed for swimmers, and people who like to spend their time in sauna or spa center. This means that we can listen to music even under water, which will certainly make a lot of people happy, especially those that spend a couple of hours in swimming pool for training or recreational purposes. Player is made with hard aluminum casing with anti-scratch surface which will successfully hide all accidental scratches made during usage. Two orange straps are designed for fixing the player onto goggles, and although they are made of rubber, we recommend that you use them with caution, because there are no spare ones if they break. Considering acceptable small dimensions and 25g weight, we think that carrying this product on goggles will not be a problem. Five control buttons are located on one side of device.

Central, and at the same time most used button is used as power switch and it has additional play/pause function. Remaining four buttons are forming a circle around central button, and they are used for volume control, and mp3 navigation. All buttons are placed on a circle surface with 20mm diameter, which makes controlling a bit harder, and we got the impression that this segment could have much better solution. Considering that it is designed for underwater usage, we were not expecting any kind of display. This is why manufacturer made efforts to resolve all needed indication with a single LED, which describes player status with different blinking types. LED is placed between control buttons and it blinks with orange color which looks nice. 2,5mm audio connector is placed on the other side of device. It is overlaid with protective rubber and it has screw cap for headphones’ connector which protects device from water infiltration.

Non volatile solid state storage is declared to enable data retention for at least 10 years. Dolphin is made with 128MB/256MB/512MB/1GB/2GB capacities, and 1GB (model we tested) seems just enough, because it is really hard to believe that someone could be able to listen for more than 1GB of music while swimming constantly. Internal rechargeable Polymer Lithium Ion battery is responsible for power supply, and it worked through 8 hours of reproduction, as declared. It took about an hour to recharge completely empty battery.

Most interesting part of testing took place in swimming pool. At start it seemed that preparation for water conditions will last long, but we believe that, in time, it will become a “minute or two routine”. In package, you will get two pairs of headphones, and if you are about to swim, you should use waterproof headphones with silicon extensions that should be placed into ears. The moment when you get the feeling of vacuum you can be sure that water will not plug your ear and disturb the sound. There are two clips attached to cables, which are used to prevent earphones from slipping out from ears. It is allowed to dip the device into water at 1 meter depth, which means that turns during swimming will not be a problem. Quality of sound reproduced under water is quite good. Although we have noticed soft buzzing in case of maximum volume level, we would not recommend that you use this volume level because it can cause unpleasant feeling in ears after you get out from water. Medium volume level, and even quiet music will be just fine for relaxing and in a certain way fascinating swimming experience.
