Finally a little bit more about earphones. On our delight, those can be described using just one word: brilliant! These in-ear earphones reproduce bass tones very accurately and because of that, your eardrums will have “a ride of their life” so be careful with volume levels. High and mid frequency sounds are also reproduced very accurate but we found that high frequency tones are little bit muffled. These earphones are for those that expect nothing but the best. Retail price for these in-ear phones is around 60$.

Sound that comes out of Zen X-Fi can be, also, described using just one word: incredible! Actually sound volume could be little bit higher but that is just our subjective opinion. Thanks to good noise cancelation properties of earphones that came with this player, volume values will not be necessary higher in most cases. X-Fi crystallizer (“dynamic EQ”) is also present in Zen X-Fi so music sounds “brighter” and by our opinion much better.

Display, as we already mentioned, on paper looks very impressive. In real world its exploitation looks very good. Videos look excellent, without drops and with good viewing angles. Of course, because of shiny finish, watching at this display on bright and sunny day is a little bit tricky business. Since device supports Xvid and DivX codecs almost any video can be played on this player.

Support for FM radio is present but signal reception is not great. On locations where we managed to listen to our favorite FM radio with low cost FM radio receivers, Zen X-Fi didn’t manage to find nothing worth listening to. But when you manage to tune in to some FM radio signal, reception will be nothing less than perfect. There are 32 presets for your favorite FM radio frequencies which is more than enough.

Voice recording is supported true Wav format. Sound is good but noise is present in recorded material even when we recorded voice in almost silent conditions. This is expected since this is not feature that is too important for this kind of device.

Menus are nicely organized and user friendly. All options are located at logical places. All text is easily readable so you will have no problems in that department. Backlight can be customized, along with fonts, and lot of other options so you can make this player customized exactly according to your needs.

Earlier mentioned SD-SDHC memory card slot has one problem or if you like it more that way - inconsistency. What is it all about? When you place music files on a memory card and insert it into Zen X-Fi files from memory card and those that are already present in internal memory storage are accessible but you cannot make playlists that have some files from memory card and some files from internal memory. We really hope that this will be corrected in next firmware.
