This time we have tested two models of inEar headphones from Altec Lansing. UHP101 and UHP307 models don’t have attractive nor interesting names but they definitely stand out in mass of standard inEar headphones that you can nowadays find on the market.
UHP 307
Very nice designed package for this model reveals headphones and quality linen bag of circular shape with zipper. The little bag is in grey color with engraved Altec Lansing logo.

UHP307 headphone model is so well designed that it’s not likely that you will get in situation when they will come off from your ears. So, it’s no wonder why Altec Lansing attended them for users accustomed on sports activities. They are very flexible and adjustable to any ear thanks to very quality silicon that was used as coating material. Silicon gently sticks around earlobe and after prolonged usage (3 hours) we didn’t experience any sort of uneasiness. Silicon on earbuds also serves for sealing earlobe from environment noise and as protection of drivers inside UHP307 from moist. Cable is coated and protected with “lace” that provides extra firmness for this model. Plug is also coated with silicone and has a 3.5 mm length. Cable is attached to the plug at 45° angle, which only confirms attentions of Altec Lansing for this model to be used by athletes. That angle guarantees safe usage of UHP307 without disconnecting it from media player and thanks to this construction solution it’s very hard to break off plug from cable even after some time (breaking of is very common for standard headphones).
What we really liked on this model is in-line volume control, that will provide you easy volume adjusting. We should also mention that it’s not possible to completely “mute” the sound, but it will be reduced enough so you can hear sounds from your environment.

UHP101
We don’t want to repeat ourselves, so we will only conclude that package for this model is very similar to previous with one exception – linen bag has smaller dimensions.
UHP101 belongs to inEar/Earbuds category. They are coated with memory foam and have exceptional shape. If you position them properly, you will get good isolation from surrounding sounds and tiny tube will transfer sound to inner ear much better. Memory foam didn’t irritate ear even after prolong usage.
We should mention that 30% of people who tested these headphones stated that they cannot use them properly, as engineers from AL predicted. Keep in mind this fact if you want to buy this model and don’t be worried that you won’t be able to use them, because Altec Lansing also provided additional pair of standard ear pads.

Sound Perfomance
At last we came to most important part of this review: sound performance. First of all, both models have same 15mm High Power Neodymium Drivers and because of differences in construction of resonant chamber, the resulting sound is not the same.
UHP101 model has “richer” bass sounds. Generally speaking, low and middle frequencies are well saturated for both models. High frequency sounds are not reproduced correctly which for some songs resulted in unrealistic sound. We should mention that these faults are result of very thorough search for weaknesses of these headphones. These faults can be easily corrected with adequate set up of equalizers of your portable media player.
