Page 1 of 2 Since living in big cities became fast, need for small and easy portable devices grew over time and manufacturers are trying to satisfy those needs. On the market of music and portable music players, compact and ultra-portable solutions become popular than ever. If you find yourself as trendy person that likes to be surrounded with good sound, without need of occupying whole car trunk with good speakers, than Altec Lansing has a solution to your problem. Depending on your needs, solution in this case can be models: FX3020, iMV712 and T612.
FX3020
From the moment we saw little box in which came FX3020, it was clear that this model is intended for younger audience (and those that feel like one in their heart) that are always on a move. Box with all accessories doesn’t weight more than one kilo so carrying it with you on a picnic feels like carrying one more pack of juice. Problem in this case can be the fact that this system cannot be powered by batteries but only true regular power socket, so if you have (camper) caravan it won’t be a problem. In the box you can find: speaker, small format manual, power cord and two audio cables. Longer cable can be used for connecting speakers to PC and shorter (around 10 cm in length) for connecting portable MP3 player. If you visit product homepage you can see that Altec Lansing intended to place this speaker below LCD monitor which is interesting solution if you have space shortage in a room, but nevertheless its portability cannot be disregarded.

We were stunned by the sheer number of supported “new” technologies of this model and all of those are present to achieve top quality sound for speakers that are this small. SFX (Sound Field Expander) technology present in these speakers simulates surround sound from a stereo source like MP3 players or stereo PC/TV output. Presence of XdB technology makes this more interesting because it simulates presence of powerful low frequency sounds (bass). Also, there are 3 drivers in little box. They have the same dimensions (2inch) and configuration that resembles 2.1 speaker systems. Two drivers are used for high and middle frequency sounds (tweeter and midrange) while central driver has a (sub) woofer role.

Little bit bigger brother of FX3020 is T612 model. Its conception is totally different and its purpose is to loudly and clearly accompany your iPod or iPhone device. Of course you can plug-in any MP3 player. Packaging is little big luxuries because of presence of little remote control. There are few cables and power cord for plugging it to any known standard power socket in the world. Design of T612 is, in our opinion, better than FX3020 at least because of option of wall mounting. In package we found small plastic part with few screws thanks to which this speaker can be mounted on the wall. All light emitting diodes are blue, like on previous model, but they don’ attract too much attention in the dark.
On top side you will find all essential controls like power button and volume controls with separated control for bass and treble. There are no bass and treble controls on FX3020 model, so you cannot setup those. Like FX3020, model T612 cannot operate on batteries. This model has 4 speakers: two 2 inch woofers and two 1 inch tweeters.
iMV712
Compared to the others this model can be characterized as biggest and most innovative. Detail that distinguishes this model from the other two (and to be honest from the rest of competition) is presence of 8.5 inch LCD display. Very impressive! Beside standard connector for MP3 player, iPhone/iPod this model has RCA input for connecting other video players to it. There is also S-VIDEO output so you can play favorite pictures and videos on TV. It is clear that this model belong to completely different product class so it is no wonder that it has more accessories: lot of cables for almost any type of device and remote control. Larger than previous models it is not that portable but when is placed in the room it will leave breathless all your guests. It is ideal for central position in your living room because of its looks and possibilities. Thanks to integrated SFX technology it can “fill” even larger rooms with high quality sound.
