BIOSTAR TPower X58A Few months ago we reviewed BIOSTAR TPower X58 model that was very good product without “fancy” features as some high-end models have, but still very interesting product. This time BIOSTAR sent us model that can be described as “striped down” version of TPower X58 model. New model is TPower X58A and this review will focus on differences between these two very similar motherboard for Core i7.
Differences
BIOSTAR TPower X58A doesn’t have heat pipes based cooling system, but instead every component has its own cooler (heat spreader). Differences in achieved temperatures exist but those differences are very small: just few degrees higher on TPower X58A model. Bigger differences in achieved temperatures were noticed during overclock session but since both motherboards need active cooling if you intend to achieve stable overclock these differences are not that important.
Of course absence of heat pipes has positively influenced on price of TPower X58A model. Second difference is absence of FireWire port on TPower X58A model. This is not good news for users that use FireWire devices on daily bases. You will be one LAN port short in case of TPower X58A also but most users never use that second network adapter. Last difference is absence of USB bracket in the package, but since TPowerX58A model has 8 USB ports at the back panel there is no real need for that bracket.
