ImageWe met earlier with WorkStation motherboards from ASUS . All WorkStation ASUS motherboards are high-class models that offer maximum possibilities and performances but the price that has to be paid for that commodity is high also. ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution has a price tag over 300€ so you shouldn’t be surprised that this model is intended for building workstations and top-notch gaming rigs. Motherboard is based on X58 chipset and as you can see from the pictures it has 6 (six) PCIe 2.0 x16 slots.

Good question is: what can be used for those 6 PCIe slots? Believe it or not but gamers weren’t the first thought that crosses our minds, although they won’t be missing PCIe lines on this motherboard. Main target customer group for this motherboard are users that need large number of top quality hard disks in their rigs. Top quality hard disks have SATA or SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) controllers with PCIe 2.0 x16 connectors. First and third PCIe 2.0 x16 slots are in x16 or x8 mode while second and fourth work in x8 mode. Fifth slot operates in x16 mode and the last one, sixth, operates in x4 mode. This motherboard can be even used for building you own server since it supports SAS hard disks (SAS adapters are included). SAS connectors are coloured in black and they are supported by Marvell 88SE6320 chip.

If some of you asked yourselves how can an motherboard have so many PCIe lines, we can tell you that besides south bridge (ICH10R) there is also nVIDIA NF200 chip present on this motherboard. Large number of PCIe lines can also be used as support for multi-monitor systems thanks to which is possible to achieve maximum that ATi CrossFireX technology can offer: 4 graphics cards and 4 displays can function at the same time. In case you prefer nVIDIA graphics cards there is support for 3-Way SLI. With 6 PCIe slots there are many combinations that can satisfy all sorts of configurations. In case you have other PCIe cards (TV of sound card) you can use PICe 2.0 x16 slots.
