Page 1 of 3 As announced, nVIDIA presented new GTX260 with larger amount of Stream Processors. This is consequence of the facts that regular GTX260 didn’t have expected performances levels and price was too high compared to similar products on the market. Simply put GTX260 was very fast but since Radeon HD 4870 had better performance/price ratio nVIDIA had to do something and as result we have GTX260+.
Difference between GTX260 and GTX260+ is in 24 Stream Processors so GTX260 has 192 SP and GTX260+ has 216 SP. This time we got GTX260+ graphics card signed by XFX that belong to their Black Edition series.
Packaging
Package for this graphics card is big and nicely designed but more important is what can be found inside. Besides card itself there are disk with drivers, all cables and adapters and bundle version of Ubisoft Assassin’s Creed (http://assassinscreed.uk.ubi.com/index_old.php#/home/). All that is niftily packed along with “I’m Gaming, Don’t Disturb” door sign and invitation to join XFX’s Black Edition Club (for all you out there that wanna join The Dark Side). Since all GTX260+ cards look the same all that was left for XFX to do is to design sticker but they did great job with it. Cooling solution has, of course, referent design with blower fan, cooler body mainly built from aluminum except contact surfaces that are built out of copper. This is great solution for GTX260 but it proved to be also good for GTX260+. Graphics card has two DVIs (you get DVI-HDMI converter) and one S-Video output. For powering of this card are used two 6-pin connectors, so you won’t need to fiddle with 8-pin connectors like on regular GTX260 model.
Frequencies and Performances
We already mentioned that GTX260+ has 216 Stream Processors but the fact is that this card has also 72 texturing units (for 8 more than regular GTX260) while amount of ROPs is the same: 28. Frequencies that nVIDIA suggests for GTX260+ are 576 MHz for GPU, 1240 MHz for Stream Processors and 2000MHz for DDR3 memory. Since this is Black Edition of GTX260+ XFX took matter in their own hands and as consequence we have GPU that operates on 666 MHz, Stream Processors on 1404 MHz and memory 2.3 GHz (2300 MHz). This “overclocked” model of GTX260+ is getting dangerously close to GTX280. Memory bus is still 448bit wide and there is 896 MB of DDR3 memory present on circuit board. We are very pleased with this card especially if we compare it with GTX260 .
