This Peak VGA is stronger variant then mentioned HD 3850, with very little changes in cooling solution. Core of heat spreader is made of copper and improves thermal transmission efficiency. Fan is just the same as it was on its predecessor. Similarities of these “twins” are R670 chip and amount of Samsung 512MB memory. Real difference compared to HD 3850 is higher GPU voltage (1.34V for HD 3870 and 1.27V for HD 3850) which results with higher overcklocking possibilities. Also memory on HD 3870 is DDR4 type with higher latency and clock than DDR3 on HD 3850. Both cards are requiring 6-pin power connector and share superior video possibilities as all Radeon HD 3xxx cards. As expected, overcklocking of this card is better than HD 3850 and final clocks are: 858 MHz for GPU and 2320 MHz for memory.
