ImagePrestigio GeoVision 350 belongs to low-cost GPS navigation devices (we could say that it is cheapest) but its exterior doesn’t give that impression. Casing and windshield cradle are nicely done without rough edges. They doesn’t look cheap and don’t give impression of low quality product. We don’t have any complaints neither on functionality neither on mobility of windshield cradle. In package we found 12V charger (with adapter for car cigarette lighter), USB cable, external (additional) GPS antenna and manual.

Device is powered by Intel CPU at 300MHz. Integrated rechargeable battery allows 3 hours of autonomy. For GPS positioning responsible is 20-channel SiRFStar III GPS chipset. Operating System is Windows CE 4.2 and GPS software is already proven iGO. One of main advantages of iGO software is simplicity. You don’t have to read manual to start using it. Its interface is intuitive and allows easy navigation and routing.

All important data is displayed on main screen: ETA (estimated time of arrival), distance to destination, info about next turn and so on. Access to POI (points of interest) is easy achievable in any time. Software allows all standard functions: 2D and 3D mode of map display, few types of routes (fastest, shortest etc), Smart Zoom option for pedestrians and many more.

Functionality

Only real objection that we have for this device is long booting time. You should be prepared to wait several minutes upon powering device until device becomes fully functional. Our recommendation is not to turn off device unless you plan to be out of vehicle for a significant amount of time. On the other hand once iGO software is loaded it works pretty fast. Connection with satellites is reestablished very fast upon exit from a tunnel for example and recalculation of route when you missed a turn is also very fast. Visibility of picture under different light conditions on 3.5 inch display is satisfactory. Display itself is touch-sensitive (obviously since there are no control keys) but there is voice command functionality also present.

There is one more function that is very interesting: option of route storage. Just one click (touch) away is list of all previous routes so it is very easy to reuse any previous route or to see what routes did take your vehicle while someone else used it (of course device should be powered on while someone else is using your car). GeoVision 350 will disappoint all users that are expecting additional functionality features (multimedia, entertainment and connectivity with other devices). Bear in mind that this is not top of the range model.

Conclusion

This is cheap GPS car navigation system (price tag is around 180€) that offers basic functions with few additional options. It can be used when going on foot and thanks to very good maps of Western/Eastern Europe and Russia it is very useful in those parts of the world. In any case, Prestigio GeoVision 350 will justify investment for drivers that need simple and reliable GPS navigation in their car.
