Page 7 of 9 Wit the first announcements of PlayStation 3 consoles, Sony presented controller under working title “Boomerang”, that caused dissatisfaction among players, mainly because its look and dysfunctional design. Sony eventually decided to drop that idea and return to proven values, so PS3 controller, under the name of SIXAXIS, truly reminds of DualShock2. However, there are changes. L2 and R2 buttons are now completely analogous and easier to press, and center of the controller got name Home button, which is used for turning on the controller. Very important addition is wirelessness, and controllers are being charged through standard mini-USB cable being connected to PS3 on the other side.
SIXAXIS has another function – gyroscope. Namely, by moving controller to the left or right side, the player or the formula will move to chosen side. Depending on title this function is used for a variety of purposes, so, for example, somewhere is implemented to peek around a corner. Unfortunately, SIXAXIS doesn’t support vibrations, i.e. vibrating motors. Although Sony says that it is because they couldn’t combine the gyroscope with the vibration motor, the true secret is hidden in the litigation where the owner of the invention of vibration motor sued Sony and won. Using Bluetooth connection, seven controllers can be connected to PS.
