Conclusion

When we were engaged with Xbox 360 console earlier, we presented it as the center of home entertainment which can, beside video games, play DVD movies, audio CDs, MP3 titles with remote devices, etc. Precisely because of that, but also because leaking of information regarding Wii as platform for Internet surfing, we barely welcomed to walk through all console menus. However, slight disappointment will wait for you soon, because new Nintendo console does not have any support for DVD, audio or MP3 discs. Prompted about that, Nintendo head representatives stated that some forthcoming versions of the console will have support for this formats, which pissed off current owners and also made them to research a bit.

Results are recently announced – Wii has standard DVD reader (which is logical, because of special manufacturing price Nintendo should have to pay), but it is locked only for utility of Wii and GameCube discs. Following versions should probably bring hardware or software unlocking of this device, and enthusiasts all around the world would not be what they are if they did not make chip for Wii shortly after that.  Beside the fact that brings possibility of playing unauthorized games (which we are not supporting of course), this chip also brings support for audio and DVD discs, so it is only a question of a day when Nintendo officially announce that their console has this possibility, and to issue appropriate patch.
