ImageNew BlackBerry model that was launched by Research In Motion (RIM) in last week of January, belongs to Curve series although it is actually similar to BlackBerry Bold . Maybe there will be someone that won’t agree with the fact that Curve 8900 (also known as Javelin) is better than Bold 9000, Curve 8900 actually has a lot of advantages and new features. Small package, in which we got Curve 8900, contains almost the same content as it was the case with Bold. Biggest difference between Bold and Curve 8900 is the price: Curve 8900 is for 25% cheaper than Bold.

Dimensions of Curve 8900 are slightly smaller compared to its “older” Bold cousin . Curve 8900 is for half of millimeter thinner, 5-6 mm shorter/narrower and 20gr lighter than Bold. Despite differences in dimensions are minimal Curve 8900 is easier to carry in your pocket. Thanks to chromed frame device is very firm and doesn’t produce noise even when we “tortured” it a little bit. Only detail on exterior of this device that shows that it belongs to different price group is flimsy, made of plastics, back cover. In case of Bold the same back cover was covered with eco-leather and was noticeably firmer. Curve 8900 also comes with leather holster, headphones (3.5 mm stereo), miniUSB cable, charger and CDs.

Probably biggest problem with this device is the fact that it doesn’t support 3G networks so it is limited on EDGE protocol. This is another detail that had influence on price of Curve 8900. If you can live without 3G we can assure you that you’ll be satisfied with the rest of connectivity options: Bluetooth, WiFi and USB.

One of most impressive details of any new BlackBerry is its display. On Curve 8900 it is slightly smaller  compared to display size on Bold but it is has the same sharpness, bright and well saturated colors and slightly higher resolution: display on Curve 8900 has for 40 pixels larger vertical size – 480x360 compared to resolution of display on Bold – 480x320. As all new BlackBerry models, Curve 8900 also has light sensor that dynamically changes brightness of the screen according to surroundings.

Curve 8900 has better camera (3.2MP) compared to 2MP that Bold has. Autofocus, image stabilization, digital zoom and flash can help when you take a photo and if you want you can also record video.
