ImageDefinition of wide display isn’t precisely defined, but in that category belong all displays that have dimension ratio “wider” then 4:3. How wider wasn’t important too much until HDTV standard got popular so it wasn’t too weird to find displays with 16:10 ratio (1.6). Now we have wide displays with “true” wide ratio 16:9 (1.78) that are perfectly fit for resolution of HDTV. Samsung 2343NW that we tested has unusual resolution and size but it is still wide 16.9 monitor.

There is just one detail that we didn’t like on this monitor when it comes to its physical characteristics. Monitor cannot be positioned absolutely vertical. This is not problem in everyday work but it can be problem in some cases. There is no obvious reason for this so it will remain a mystery to us why this detail wasn’t realized and corrected. Everything else on this monitor is perfect. There is swivel monitor stand, touch sensitive controls and narrow display frame colored in black with matte finish.

Display of colors is close to perfect as it can be. Gradients are smooth, dynamics is great and there is no backlight breaching. There is nothing more to expect from TN Film panel. The same goes for horizontal and vertical viewing angles. Relatively small dot pitch perfectly suites modern, visually rich, operating systems.

Conclusion

There were just few monitors that presented us with problems when it came time to summarize our impressions. This is monitor that doesn’t have too much flaws but also it doesn’t have any special characteristic that we could talk about. Simply put: this is great monitor, with neutral appearance and great price. One detail is worth mentioning: there is no DVI connector just D-Sub, but model with DVI connector exists.  If you don’t need DVI connector Samsung 2343NW with price tag around 200€ presents itself as perfect candidate for your new monitor.
