ASUS_22T1E_intro2.jpgImageIt is hard to define exactly what ASUS 22T1E is: monitor or TV? It has 21.5inch panel that can display Full HD resolution (1080p). Because of this feature we can categorize this model as monitor since there are just few other TV models that have such resolution/size ratio. On the other side, if we take a look at other features such as numerous audio and video connectors it is clear that this is TV model. Our impression is that primary function of ASUS 2T1E is TV receiver so we will treat it as such.

So, ASUS 22T1E TV set has analog and digital DVB-T tuner. Although digital TV signal is not standard option in all counties around the world, and you could say that it is obsolete feature that increases the final price, it is actually good investment for the future. More and more countries adopt digital TV signal, and analog TV signal is becoming obsolete. So, analog TV sets will become useless, or, you will need to purchase set-top-box that will convert digital to analog signal. Such devices can  cost around 50-70€. With ASUS 22T1E similar problems are avoided since it has both, analog and digital, tuner types.

ASUS_22T1E_remote.jpgAlthough we got sample and not full retail product, we were pleasantly surprised with number of supported languages and localized automated channel search procedure. We all know that standard PAL resolution looks bad on HDTV sets but, because of small panel size most problems are eliminated so PAL picture actually looks pretty good. When we connected PC via HDMI port and played Full HD video, picture quality was impressive. Since all LCD monitors/TVs are able to reproduce 72% of NTSC color palette this TV isn’t exception.  Contrast is solid 1000:1, but thanks to ASCR (ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio) it can reach values of 20,000:1. Beside this feature there is also ASUS Splendid Video Intelligence Technology that analyses video signal and optimizes picture quality accordingly. We should also mention Aspect Control technology that will adjust non-wide picture to wide format (for example: by eliminating black stripes from 4:3 format). There is support for teletext, favorite TV channels list, EPG and many more.

ASUS 22T1E has stereo speakers located below display. There is enough power for an average room but little bit wider frequency range would be welcomed. There is even Virtual Surround Sound option but its result are not that impressive. If you prefer better “sound picture” there are lot of audio connector at the back, including optical.

Design of this TV set is in sync with contemporary trends: combination of black and silver surfaces with piano finish. Bottom segment, where speaker are located, is made with interesting texture that adds little bit of elegancy to this TV. One of the rare real problems that we encountered with this TV set is inability to mount it on the wall. Connectors at the back are positioned in a way that wall mounting is not an option, and to be honest ASUS didn’t provide mounting brackets.
