In the times when CRT monitors (displays) were only choice, if you cared about your health and especially eyesight you needed to buy good and expensive monitor. Back then, when someone wanted to buy a good PC we always recommended him to buy good monitor first and then the rest of the configuration with money that remained from initial budget. With TFT monitors is different story, and in most cases it does not matter how much you spent on your TFT monitor since most of them won’t hurt your eyesight. Nowadays, you can buy a decent TFT monitor for around 100€ (except few exceptions) but we will offer you few very good arguments to spend slightly more – around 150€. For that difference in price, you can get monitor signed by well-established brand, with contemporary design, format and high resolution. Since monitor is, in most cases, long-term investment (because it is a component that is rarely upgraded), it makes sense so go for slightly better solution. Problem is that even in this low price range, there are differences between various models and manufacturers.

For an average user, question of monitor backlight is, in most cases, a trivial one. Most users simply don’t like to see too much backlight breach along edges along with bright or smudgy black areas. And that’s it, for an average user. In case you do need good display, and do pay attention to small details, you expect much more from your monitor’s backlight. LED (Light Emitting Diode) backlight is often mentioned as better and more energy efficient solution, but only in case RGB LED technology is correctly implemented. Changing neon backlight for an LED does sound like a simple task in theory, but this can also present some new problems. Since LG W2486L does have LED backlight, and we will check out how LG did its homework.

It is hard to define exactly what ASUS 22T1E is: monitor or TV? It has 21.5inch panel that can display Full HD resolution (1080p). Because of this feature we can categorize this model as monitor since there are just few other TV models that have such resolution/size ratio. On the other side, if we take a look at other features such as numerous audio and video connectors it is clear that this is TV model. Our impression is that primary function of ASUS 2T1E is TV receiver so we will treat it as such.

More about AOC brand you can get from their site, which will take to the manufacturers site: TPV Technology from China. Beside monitors that we got in our test lab, we saw on both sites very interesting and nicely designed displays. Also we stumbled upon info that TPV is “leading display solution provider” which is the fact that isn’t that easy to confirm. Nevertheless it looks like monitors that we got on test are made before this manufacturer employed a real designer. But let’s not judge the book by its covers, because these models have very attractive price tags.

ASUS is, obviously, trying very hard to make monitors that are nicely designed but, since there is no disputing about tastes, we will let you to decide if you like the design of ASUS. Bottom line is that you should first take a look at this monitor with its "unusual" design and only then decide if you like it or not.

We already write about monitor’s price drop, and why and how this price cuts didn’t have influence on prices of monitors that have 22 inch and bigger diagonals. Price drop is inevitable force of advancing technology, so now even 22 inch and 24 inch monitors are entering into low-budget category. We had on test Samsung 2433BW that is, if judged by specification, suited for users that want biggest possible monitor for their money.
