Picture Quality
Although it has smaller factor sensor compared to other DSLR entry levels models, picture quality is very good. Sharpness with kit lens (14-42mm) is very good, focus system fast, although little bit unreliable under poor light conditions. In Continuous mode autofocus barely manages to hold on the subject, and this is segment where competitors are doing better job. Color reproduction is very good, while balance also, except in artificial lighting conditions when manual settings should be used. Color noise up to ISO 800 isn’t present too much, but on values above ISO 800 noise is noticeable. Since Olympus E-620 has 4/3 sensor this is maximum that can be achieved.
Conclusion
When we take into consideration all features and price tag for this model (around 680€), we can conclude that, if you decide to purchase this model, you will get a lot of bang for the buck. Only real problem can be higher noise at higher ISO values. Bottom line is: Olympus E-620 easily fills E-520’s shoes, and if you are searching for a affordable ticket to a DSLR world this can be a smart choice.
