ImageWhen you enter a store with large assortment of NotePal devices, there is a great chance that you will pay more attention on X1 model. Although entire NotePal series is nicely designed, this model stands out with its attractiveness. As its name associates, NotePal X1 is stylized in letter X shape, which with black coloring gives a mystic note to this device. Upper surface is made of metal mesh which ensures certain level of cooling even when the cooling blower is not working. It is designed for cooling laptops of 12-15.4” display size.

On rear you can find a switch for ventilator activation, and two USB ports. One of them is used for connecting NotePal with laptop. Underside plastic does not seem to be high quality, but it will do its job even so. Backside of device is slightly raised, and plastics in that section are thinner so that X1 nicely overlaps and gives you stability if you are using it in your lap.  If you need bigger dip, there are two stems that can be used, just like on keyboards.

Because of specific shape of this device, there was space for only one ventilator, but it compensates with 120mm diameter. Thanks to its size, air flow is much bigger than with other NotePal coolers, so the cooling is very good at the same time. Considering the position of ventilator, air might not be blown directly into laptop ventilation gaps. Because of this, in some occasions cooling of important components is going to be more likely indirect, by cooling the entire laptop. Fan speed can be regulated in range of 750-1500 RPM (rotation per minute). Unlike of NotePal Infinite cooler, which has switch with three stages, X1 uses regulation potentiometer placed on the right side of device. Thanks to potentiometer, speed can be regulated continually, so you can define speed and noise proportion on your own desired way. This solution is far more elegant than previous one, and we hope that in future, all NotePal models will use potentiometers.

Besides cooling, very important parameter for devices like this one is noise level. Sound that NotePal X1 produces at minimum fan speed is not classic buzzing, it reminds more of humming caused by bearing vibrations. It is good that this sound is not strident, and at the same time it is not irritating. Anyway, noise level is completely tolerable, and even at distance of 20 cm it is negligible. Of course, if you are using maximum speed, noise level is noticeably bigger.

NotePal X1 is maybe not a cooling champion, but it does its elemental duty thanks to huge air flow. In addition to all this, a bit lower price than other NotePals and attractive design is going to be just enough to ensure that X1 finds its way to the customers.
