Page 1 of 2 Few weeks ago we reviewed MSI NetTop , PC that beside its small dimensions had also very low power consumption (35W) and as such was ideal solution for almost any office. This time we got PC that has extremely low power consumption of 65W that includes power consumption of monitor because whole PC is packed at the back side of it. This AIO concept isn’t something new, but till now prices of similar configurations were relatively high compared to performances but MSI AP1900 model is ready to make some radical changes even in that department.
Hearth of this configuration is single-core Atom CPU with HyperThreading that is backed-up with motherboard based on 954GC chipset and integrated Intel graphics card. These components are main culprits for achieved low power consumption. In the box we also found power adapter, USB mouse and keyboard, stand for mounting, CD with drivers, empty DVD for making recovery disk, manual and small cloth for keeping your AIO PC in perfect condition (it will get handy sooner or later). Monitor (chassis) was protected with protective transparent foil to minimize danger of scratching the device when taking it out of the box. Since we are used to looking at monitors that don’t have too large bottom segment of frame, this device at first looked to us somewhat odd. Nevertheless display is nicely positioned on the table when it’s placed on the stand. Height of monitor cannot be changed but its angle can for 15 degrees which will be enough for most situations.
Bottom of AIO PC is dominated by power button while HDD activity LED and reset button are missing. On right side are located 2 USB ports along with card reader (SD/MMC/MS) and optical drive. At the back side are additional connectors: (additional) 2 USB ports, PS/2 for mouse and keyboard, LAN and two audio connectors (if you prefer to use external speakers instead of those that are hidden behind front grill). Since USB mouse and keyboard are provided in the package, there are actually two USB connectors at your disposal. If you need more USB ports you can always use USB Hub.
Picture quality is good, viewing angles great and this 16:9 display is perfect for watching HD video since you won’t see black stripes above and below video material. Mouse and keyboard that we got in the package are great for everyday work but keyboard is “sawed off” (narrow) model which needs few days of accommodation for users that are used to traditional keyboards. During tests we didn’t noticed any significant warming up or noisy fans even during intensive benchmarking. Fans could be heard only when we booted up and even then noise levels were minimal.

The test sample that we got had preinstalled Windows XP SP3. The problem is in choice of offered languages – MSI provided installation on several languages but not on English. This is perfectly fine if you find your language on the list of supported languages, but if you are used to use Windows in English then you will have problem of getting used to commands on your native language. Beside OS there are also additional preinstalled applications: MSI Recover (for making recovery disk), Adobe Reader, Ulead Burn Now 4.5SE and two MSI games. Unfortunately there was no Office application but then again this is option left for you to choose according to what are you used to. Hard disk is divided into two partitions: System Partition of 40GB (which is more than enough) and second partition of 106GB. Benchmark results are at expected levels and have confirmed that this configuration is more than capable to play HD 720p video material, while we found that HDD was really slow even for last year’s standards.
