ImageRussian scientists from University of Bauman worked more than a year on a project to bring true Robocop on Russian streets. Result of this project is robot that has 250kg and height of 180cm with price tag reaching $10.000. Its first working location is Perm city.

Robot has rocket like shape and its equipped with cameras and microphones. All information’s collected by this robot can be and will be used on court. Robot can recognize some "criminal" activities like beer drinking in public in which case he will approach "criminals" and warn them.

One of first goals is to make it (him?) capable to regulate traffic. Also in this stage robot can't go over sidewalk but that is planned to implementation. For now, robot has human policeman as "partner" but there are plans to let it be more autonomous over time. Also robot can't work on heavy rain fall and during winter.

It's obvious that robot may become target of vandalism but authorities suggest that robot is capable to defend himself and that camera is shielded with bullet proof glass. Robot has autonomy of 8 working hours, certainly more than our notebooks. The police intend to give the robot a rank. He is a trainee now, but he could become a cadet soon. Maybe a general one day?:) Authorities said that he will attend special academy to achieve that task. Source.
