Just over one year after launching its service, San Francisco-based DocVerse has been snatched up by Google for an unconfirmed $25 million. DocVerse's offer enables easy real-time sharing and editing of Word, PowerPoint and Excel files via web-based services, and Google has one popular cloudy productivity solution Google Docs.
"What impresses us the most about the Google team is that they all share the same philosophy - giving people the tools to work the way they want," said DocVerse founders Shan Sinha and Alex DeNeui. Unfortunately, the acquisition was quickly followed by a suspension of new sign-ups for DocVerse's service but existing users can still access it as usual. The next step for DocVerse will see it being combined with Google Apps in order "to create a bridge between Microsoft Office and Google Apps."
