As you know from our reviews of 5870 and 5770 , AMD is the first company to release DirectX 11-supporting discrete graphics solutions. Will this happen again, remains to be seen, as it looks like the company will be taking its time to bring the new API to IGPs. On the slide leaked from not so public presentation it appears that AMD's plans for both the desktop and mobile segments suggest that DX11 integrated graphics won't be until 2011.
On the desktop side, AMD's IGP line will continue to be DirectX 10.1 in
2010 with the Dorado platform, while in 2011, 'Lynx' will see to the
debut of DX 11 IGPs. Pretty much the same will happen in the notebook
department, with Danube and Nile both making use of DX 10.1 IGPs, while
the Sabine and Brazon platforms (2011) will adopt DX 11 integrated
graphics. On the discrete side, everything appears to be on schedule
and before competition - releasing its dual-GPU Radeon HD 5900 series
card is near, probably a bit before its low-end DX 11 GPUs - Redwood
and Cedar. For the mobile segment, there is still no official
announcement, but we wouldn’t be much surprised to see first models to
start showing around Christmas time.
