If you’re a demanding customer, a good motherboard is a very important thing, because it represents the basis of a good PC. Therefore, a right choice is important if you want it to last. Besides, high-quality models can help to reduce other expenses. Let’s say you realize at some point that you need more SATA 6 Gbps or USB 3.0 ports. In that case, you’d have to either buy a new motherboard or buy a controller, which would take up a slot. In both cases, you’ll have more expenses. Aside from that, models like we’re about to review has some other qualities. Therefore, let’s see what P8Z77-V Deluxe offers.

Top quality equipment

ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe comes in a standard ASUS packaging, except that it's easy to notice by the size of it that there are additional components. The box itself is pretty heavy, so it's clear from the start that ASUS made an effort to justify the Deluxe brand. Aside from the motherboard, there's two WiFi antennas, as well as a matching module, six SATA cables, SLI bridge, Q-Connector, a large and extensive manual, as well as a CD with drivers.  Motherboard itself looks great. It has a great many elements, ports, as well as a massive cooling system separated into four segments which clearly indicate that this is a high-quality product. Layout is excellent and it's hard to find a flaw in it. Everything is where it should be, and especially interesting are details such as POST screen or built-in power and reset buttons. It has a large number of switches, for functions such as MemOK!, BIOS Flashback, CLR CMOS etc. As it's clear from its designation number, this model is based on Intel's Z77 Express chipset, which means a great many functions are implemented natively. Of course, ASUS made an effort to offer its customers even more by implementing their own technologies. Around the LGA1155 socket is located a massive Digi+ power unit and should be more than enough for any CPU. Aside from the fact that voltage going to CPU will be completely stable, efficiency with power units such as this one is better than with cheaper models. Of course, it must be cooled, so it has two large coolers which ensure stability even at maximum load. It should also be noted that components are of highest quality, so the heating is minimal and will ensure top performance for a long time. ASUS implemented a large number of exclusive technologies. There's TPU and EPU for optimizing consumption and maximum CPU clock. Also, there's USB 3.0 Boost for faster data transfer, USB charger and FanXpert 2 support. The latter enables the control of each fan individually, additional settings related to number of revolutions in various situations, and even remote control via tablet or a smartphone.

This motherboard really excelles in terms of practicality. First of all, there four DIMM slots, with support for a maximum of 32 GB DDR3 of memory. It also has a large number of PCI-Express slots. Three slots have full dimensions, but only one can work in x16 mode. Second one can work in x8 and the third one in x4 mode. Support for SLI and CrossFire isn't lacking, but here we lament the lack of PLX chip which would help eliviate the problem of missing PCI-Express lines. Truthfully, this is perhaps its biggest flaw, because it's a pretty expensive motherboard and it's hard to forget the fact that this imperfection is present. Aside from these three, there are four more PXI-Express x1 slots which can be used for various purposes. The numerous SATA ports enable the users to connect many data storage units. Two SATA 6 Gbps and four SATA 3 Gbps are Intel chipsets. Aside from them, there's a Marvell 9128 controller for two third generation SATA ports. ASUS also implemented ASMedia controller which deals with two additional eSATA ports on the back panel. Networking aspect of this model is also flawless. Aside from the dual band WiFi module with two antennas and Bluethooth 4.0, there are also two Ethernet ports. One of them is Intel, the other one is Realtek. ASUS branded the Intel model, which is, as always, the better choice and should be a primary choice for every user. On the back panel there's a huge number of ports and ASUS should be lauded for it. Aside from the afore-mentioned, there are additional six USB 3.0 and four USB 2.0 ports. As was to be expected, ASUS decided on 8-channel audio with S/PDIF for which Realtek ALC898 is in charge for, and for video media, there's a DisplayPort and HDMI full-size connections.

Not for everyone

Basically, a motherboard like ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe is not for everyday users. It's an excellently equiped basis for expensive gaming or business PCs. Users lucky enough to have it will have complete control over it. UEFI BIOS is trully the best one ASUS offered and enables you to adjust even the tinnies details. Overclock functions as well as with RoG models, with a bit more freedom. The end result will certainly be similar, unless in extreme cases. All in all, ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe performs flawlessly and has a great many capabilities. In case you need them, and you have the money, don't look further.
