Microsoft has taken the unusual step of promoting Windows 7 in Japan with Burger King's launch of a Windows 7 Whopper. Fitting in with the software theme, the burger stacks seven patties in an otherwise normal Whopper and measures 5.1 inches tall. It also has an appropriate $8.53 price for first 30 daily customers in each restaurant, with $17.10 price tag for the rest. The promotion will run until October 28th.

A gift from Google for Virgin America flyers brings you free in-flight WiFi on every Virgin America flight from November 10, 2009 through January 15, 2010. The search engine creator sees it as a way of easing stress during the holidays by keeping up on news from the ground, though it also encourages use of Google's services in the air.

As revealed by Joe Faulhaber on the Microsoft Malware Protection Center's Threat Research & Response blog, the Redmond company's free anti-malware solution, Security Essentials, has a good debut, with over 1.5 million download being recorded in the first week of release.

Google has now updated its web-based productivity service so as it includes the ability to share folders. This functionality makes it easier for groups to collaborate on projects that feature multiple documents, spreadsheets or presentations. Once shared, a folder will become accessible to all members of a certain group, with all the new files added to that folder automatically being available to the group.

If you remember 1999, Metallica almost single handily took down the original P2P client Napster after Ulrich found hundreds of theirs songs available through the client, for free. Things has changed, and since 2004, the rock band Metallica has been selling HQ downloads of all the band's concerts, in MP3 or FLAC, but only as a full album.

Napster and PC-maker Dell have signed a deal to have the electronics giant bundle new Inspiron and Studio laptops with a 12-month subscription to Napster's unlimited streaming music service. In the US, the bundle will be worth $60 USD, but will also include 60 free tracks that can be downloaded and kept forever, even after the subscription runs out.
