At first glance, this year’s flagship of Android, Galaxy S4 cellphone looks a lot like the last year’s Galaxy S III model. Although, when we looked more closely, it became clear that improvements in design do exist – the newest addition to the Galaxy S brand of products at the same time has both bigger screen and battery, and is also thinner, a bit smaller and weighs less than its predecessor. For this feat, Samsung should be lauded, although we suspect that good part of this accomplishment is due to implementation of Gorilla Glass 3 protective screen. It’s thinner, but at the same time sturdier, with a greater resistance to scratches, although if numbers are to be believed, it’s also more fuscous. The “inspired by nature” design choice of rounded edges, present in Galaxy S III, is less pronounced here, corners are sharper and the rim isn’t wavy anymore, rather it has the same scope everywhere. The said rim also has another two strengthenings which serve to additionally simulate a metallic hoop, but are still made from plastic. The edges are higher than the screen for a space of less than a millimeter and the whole of the device is covered with a layer of hyperglaze, as is the case with its predecessor, which under the transparent surface has a lattice of thin lines, whose purpose is to change the monotony of large, white-colored surfaces.

Western Digital announced it is shipping the world’s first ultra-slim 2.5-inch, 5 mm hard drives and solid state hybrid drives (SSHD), which are designed for integration into the slimmest devices and space-constrained computing environments. "With 500 GB of storage capacity and models with high performance-enabling solid state hybrid drive technology, this slim product line helps to address the trade-offs’ system designers often make between capacity, physical size and performance," WD said. “With the launch of our new WD Blue 5 mm ultra slim hard drives and our WD Black SSHD products, currently shipping to OEMs, WD is delivering to our customers a variety of solutions that maximise storage capacity and volumetric efficiency, as well as performance and system responsiveness, for consumers,” said Matt Rutledge, vice president of WD’s client computing business unit. “Our engineering team took a clean-sheet approach with 5 mm to deliver an ultra-thin hard drive that enables a world of possibilities and applications for mobile computing and beyond.”

AMD announced the new AMD Embedded G-Series System-on-Chip (SOC) platform, a single-chip solution based on the AMD next-generation “Jaguar” CPU architecture and AMD Radeon 8000 Series graphics. AMD claims that the Embedded G-Series SOC platform sets the new bar for SOC design, offering up to 113 percent improved CPU performance compared to the prior generation AMD Embedded G-Series APU, and up to a 125 percent advantage compared to the Intel Atom when running multiple industry-standard compute intensive benchmarks.

Cooler Master developed the V-series to "re-ascertain its position as a leading power supply brand." It’s based on a single rail platform with outstanding voltage stability, ripple suppression and efficiency. “Thanks to a 135mm high quality FDB fan and a fine-tuned fan profile, V-series PSUs are extremely quiet, even under full load,” CM claims.
V-series PSUs are made with the highest grade Japanese electrolyte and solid capacitors, as well as high quality 42mm transformers. Cooler Master custom interface PCB aligns all rails to reduce voltage plane cross-overs, which keep crosstalk, EMI and droop to a minimum.

ASUS announced the compact Xonar U7 USB external soundcard and headphone amplifier, which offers powerful and clear 114dB SNR audio with USB convenience. It incorporates a headphone amplifier, Dolby Home Theater v4 support, plus dedicated microphone and volume controls.
While other USB audio devices leave out hardware features in order to maintain a small form factor and are typically only capable of 5.1-channel surround due to limited power supply, Xonar U7 engineering overcomes these constraints to offer strong and immersive 7.1-channel performance.
