Testing results
Printing speed results are presented in appropriate table and they confirmed what we could foreseen when we took a look at specifications. All results greatly exceed all values that we saw till now on all tested home or business multifunctional devices.
Nevertheless most important thing beside sheer speed is quality of printed material. Since Epson built-in very good scanner into this multifunctional device, scanned photos have good sharpness and great color saturation, while textual documents look exactly the same as original (and no, you cannot print money with it :) ). Good characteristics of printing mechanism with good choice of paper can result in great printing results regardless of what you are printing: text or photos. Improvements that are implemented into Epson Stylus Photo PX800FW in combination with new Claria photo ink and cartridges proved to be great combination. Usage of new ink type resulted in one nice feature. Draft, or fast printing mode, is faster indeed than standard but its quality is similar to standard mode so it is finally usable even on Epson printers. Last few years every model that was signed by Epson had problems with draft printing mode that was too pale and totally useless.
All these results and technical details resulted with something that was impossible, until now, to do with SOHO inkjet multifunctional models: copying of color photographs. If you choose maximum quality and use adequate photo paper you can literary produce cloned photo. For testing purposes we used Epson photo glossy paper and copied one color photo on PX800FW. After we waited for few minutes for paper to dry completely we couldn’t find differences between original and copy! Brilliant! Of course nothing is ideal so we need to call attention of future owners of this device to the fact that Epson declared extremely optimistic values for number of pages that can be printed with original cartridges. In reality after 80 pages (12 A4 photographs and the rest were text documents) drivers reported that we used around 25% of ink in all cartridges.
