There is no better way for testing maximum potentials than to play good and demanding game. MSI decided to pack these notebooks with one game, completely free of charge, “Tom Clancy’s Rainbow six: Vegas 2”. Rich bundle contains also StarMouse GS-502 in red&black combination. Scroll wheel lights blueishly while MSI logo above it lights red. Regardless on new tendencies in portable computers community, MSI was driven by habits of gamers and decided to include wired mouse, which is a very wise decision. Beside two basic keys, GS-502 mouse is equipped with 4 more keys: “T” key on top is Turbo Resolution Switch (from 400dpi to 2400dpi),“M” key on top (Mode Switch Button) is attended for selecting one from three predefined modes and 2 programmable buttons on side. Programmable buttons can be set differently for any of three modes. It also has rubber side grips to prevent fingers to slip off mouse and also has 7 little weights (with total weight of 40 grams) for adjusting mouse weight.
MSI also gives with these notebooks a backpack which has different colour depending on viewing angle and light. Backside is black while front side has dark red appearance. Its capacity is more than enough to pack notebook and still you’ll have a room for some little things. Quality is more than decent, making this backpack a very nice and useful gift. With MSI GT735 you will also get folding earphones with mic.
MSI GX720
This model is based on newest Intel platform – Centrino 2. Core 2 Duo processor is coupled with nVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT graphics card (with 512MB DDR3 memory) performing very well during gaming. When the notebook is powered only by battery, systems for reducing power consumption are activated and doesn't allow graphics card to perform with full capacity, no matter what settings you have in options. Even though such situations will be rare, we would still like to have possibility of utilizing maximum potential while notebook works on battery. Graphics card has several modes. In full speed clocks are: 500MHz for GPU, 800MHz for memory and 1250MHz for Shaders. Considering that Intel platform is known as economic, we weren’t surprised with GX720 noticeably better results for autonomy.
MSI GT735
As you already may anticipate, this notebook is based on AMD processor and ATi graphics card, in one of most powerful variants. Processors works at even 2.2GHz (overcloked works at 2.6GHz). We say even, because AMD doesn’t have too many faster models in its offer. This model also showed some illogical behavior during work. When “Power Now” option was turned on in BIOS and notebook was powered by battery, processor refused to work faster than 550MHz. Graphics card worked on lower clocks from default. This is the main reason why this model didn’t win against GX720 in gaming battle, despite our expectations based on specifications. Values for GPU clock were from 110MHz up to 480MHz and for memory from 400-600MHz. GT735 is a bit louder from GX720 but only when it is under full load.
The biggest advantage of this model (at least on paper) is Blu-ray reader.
