Just like Acer Aspire One D150 Lenovo IdeaPad S10e cannot be opened fully. Just like it was the case with Acer, Lenovo’s excuse is larger 6-cell batter although our model was equipped with smaller 3-cell battery. Display is 10.1 inch in diagonal with 1024x576 resolution. Because of this resolution, web surfing is a little bit inconvenient experience because you will use scroll much more often. Picture quality is good.

When it comes to basic components of Lenovo IdeaPad S10e there is nothing interesting - usual Intel platform with Atom CPU. Big difference compared to all other netbooks is storage system. Lenovo IdeaPad S10e storage system consists of one 4GB SSD and 160GB hard drive. SSD is used for operating system and applications and HDD for personal data. This combination allows fast Windows boot and fast application loading times. Since used SSD has maximum transfer rate of 25MB/s you should expect slowdowns when operating with large files. After we powered Lenovo IdeaPad S10e for the first time and finished initial Widows setup there was no other storage devices reported in Windows except SSD. We went in BIOS and found that HDD is regularly reported. Problem with HDD in Windows was that it wasn’t partitioned and formatted. Our Lenovo IdeaPad S10e wasn’t technical sample, this is model that will appear in retail stores. If Lenovo expects that average user will know how to partition HDD and format it from Windows when it doesn’t even appear in My Computer, then someone in Lenovo has made a wrong estimation in our humble opinion.

Cooling system does its job correctly, so as consequence we have uniform warming up without “hotspots”. Unfortunately noise levels are little but higher compared to other netbooks. Lack of Bluetooth and only two USB connectors are also small problems when it comes to Lenovo IdeaPad S10e, but on the other side there is Express Card slot present so some of these problems can be corrected. In the package that came with Lenovo IdeaPad S10e we also found a light gray bag made out of neoprene that can be used to protect your netbook while carrying it.
