Screen resolution is completely different story.  In HP 2133 Mini-Note are built-in two different displays. In both cases 8.9-inch, but first has maximum resolution of 1280x768 and the other, more commonly for this diagonal, is 1024x600. In case you purchase model with 1024x600 screen resolution it could be raised on 1024x768 and entire contents will be displayed (there was no need for scrolling), but the picture will be deformed because of changed proportions.

Quality of the speakers was the pleasant surprise, making the HP 2133 the best in its class in this category. Web camera reproduces the picture with real colours, but with noticeable colour noise. There is one more hint that HP really targeted for business users: existence of “3D Drive Guard”, HDD’s shock resistance protection system.  A really nice touch, especially in this price range.

VIA
VIA Company for a long time doesn’t have the status like they used to. Last couple of years they intensively worked on low consumption processors that are therefore adapted for usage in portable devices, like notebooks and netbooks. HP 2133 has VIA C7-M processor and motherboard with VIA VN896 chipset. These are two main reasons why we tested this device with such impatience and compared its results with models based on Intel platform with Atom processor. Results are not so great, quite disappointing, in our humble opinion. VIA C7-M 764 works at 1.6GHz but HP 2133 showed in all tests worst results than MSI Wind U90 netbook that had Intel Atom at 1.6GHz. A bit bigger autonomy isn’t the consequence of low power consumption, but better battery and weaker screen illumination.

LINUX

HP offered from the beginning very wide palette of differently configured models with processor speeds from 1.2GHz up to 1.6GHz, 1 or 2GB of memory, different operating systems… Model that we tested is most affordable, so instead of Vista it has SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop OS. Quite differently from other netbooks on the market, HP 2133 doesn’t use specially adjusted (simplified) version of Linux, and less experienced users will hardly accustom to that Linux than that will at version used on Acer Aspire One and Asus Eee netbooks. Beside Windows OS, this model was deprived also for Bluetooth adapter that exists only on expensive variants.
