GeForce – Integrated GPU
GPU inside of 780a is based on eighth generation nVidia graphics chips. It has 16 unified shader processors and 4 TMU (Texture Management Unit), DirectX 10 support and possibility of running new game titles. On standard BIOS settings this integrated GPU “steals” 256MB of system RAM, which can cause system performance reduction. This performance drop can be eliminated by using separate graphics card and then 780a will act similar to AMD’s 790GX high-end chipset. When it comes to GPU integrated solution, don’t expect too much. Performances are quite appropriate but comparing to previous generations, they are far from needed minimum for smooth game experience. Some of new game titles you can play only at lower resolutions with reduced detail levels.
Layout
M3N-HT Deluxe/Mempipe has excellent arrangement of components. Longer graphics card won’t for sure hit into memory slots. Motherboard is completely equipped with Solid-alu capacitors that don’t have leaking problems or problem of loosing capacitance during time. Power 8+2 Phase unit is “brutally” done. Although it is analog (in contrast to digital DFI Lanparty UT 790FX), vdrop isn’t noticed. On this motherboard CPU power module is produced using ferrite chokes. Cooling solution include heatpipe system and additional fan (turbine) for which we recommend to install because this integrated chipset can warm up a lot. Curiosity is also heatpipe for memory modules integrated in complete heatpipe system of this motherboard.
nForce 780a is warming up just a little bit more than its rival AMD 780G and that is not surprising because nVidia’s chipset is manufactured in 65nm technology while AMD 780G is at progressive 55nm.
BIOS
BIOS is pretty much standard, as it is among most Asus motherboards, signed by Award with well-known horizontal navigation. There are all possible adjustment options for memory, chipset power, VDD integrated northbridge, CPU core power and DDR2 memory. Startup menu for this Asus motherboard is consisted of applications like: Skype and web browser and similar. That can be interested for using PC at internet café because there is no need to install OS (you won’t even need HDD). You will only need a router for Internet connection.
