Page 3 of 6 XFX is a reputable brand on the market. Their target market are mostly enthusiasts who are willing to cash out a few euros more to get a highly overclockable card, usually with a different (better) design as well. They do possess “ordinary” models in their production portfolio, but are nevertheless generally priced slightly higher compared to their counterparts from other companies. This is an 8800GTS with 320 megs of RAM.
A compact and very well designed box partially shows the cooling profile of the card. The packaging consists of drivers, a short manual, cables, and the full version of a very attractive game: Lost Planet – Extreme Condition. Having in mind that this was a “Fatal1ty” series' card, we were expecting a factory-overclocked model, and we were right to do so. The G80 chip is clocked at an extremely high 650 MHz, which means that the stream processors are working at more than 1.5 GHz, which means that this card was pushed to its limits. The memory is also working at a very high clock – 2 GHz. As the memory bus is slightly lacking and has a 320-bit width, the high memory clock makes up for it to a certain extent.
The default frequency test show the obvious domination in performance over ordinary 8800GTSs, but the overclock potential is not much higher on this model, so, after both of these are overclocked, the results are pretty much all the same. We reached (already seen) clocks of 660/2100 MHz with the XFX. However, warranty is what matters here – the card is manufactured overclocked and those clocks are guaranteed for, which presents a certain amount of comfort. The price is high, but that's the price of quality.
