One of basic differences for these two models is amount of basic memory and impossibility of its expanding. Touch Pro has more basic memory and possibility of expanding through microSD 2.0 memory cards. Touch Diamond doesn’t have possibility of adding in memory but instead, it has 4GB integrated memory which should be enough for some time even for some serious usage.
Both devices work under Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional platform with presence of almost unavoidable Pocket Office pack. Until you get some of GPS applications (TomTom, iGo, …) aGPS can serve you (assisted GPS is using information from GPS satellites and GSM network while location is displaying through Google Maps service, that requires internet connection). Naturally, all usual applications are present: messaging client (e-mail, sms, mms), organizer, media player (which doesn’t have problems with video reproduction thanks to built-in Broadcomm chipset), Live Messenger etc. Beside IE Mobile, Opera 9.5 is also present. Due to quality screen, preview of web pages is a very pleasant surprise, but credit for that should actually go to already mentioned Opera. Also are present: RSS reader, YouTube client application, MP3 trimmer application that enables creating of phone melodies directly on PDA (beside sound recording possibility it can provide you hours of good entertainment).
Detail that brings closer both models to iPhone is presence of TouchFLO 3D application. Like on iPhone, navigation through applications is performed by moving the finger over the screen. This way scrolling is possible in all directions which partly exclude usage of D-pad, so all critics on its account lose importance. Device detects even speed of finger dragging on the screen so scrolling of bigger documents won’t be a problem. Beside all, HTC also redesigned majority of most used applications so it easily could happen that iPhone got a decent rival if there isn’t one stunning fact. Even beside faster processor and more memory, this newest generation of HTC’s devices work slower than previous and therefore slower from iPhone. Classic example is situation when keyboard slides out on Touch Pro model. Screen then rotates from portrait to landscape orientation and displays 8 icons for most used programs. While slide-out movement lasts just a fraction of a second, for changing picture orientation on the screen and displaying shortcuts is necessary even 3 – 4 seconds. Image zooming is sport for patient ones and listing of active applications in Task Manager through icon in upper right corner of display isn’t for ones with bad nerves.

Both models, of course function also as mobile phones. Communication is a bit better than on models from previous generation, which can be especially applied on quality of reproduced sound. Phonebook and call list are redesigned in such matter to fit in perfectly in Touch FLO 3D philosophy. Interesting shaped pack (truncated cone) contains also stereo earphones of acceptable quality that has on cable a button for making /hanging up a telephone connection and integrated radio cannot be used until these earphones are plugged into miniUSB. This also means that if something happens to these earphones you must to call on HTC for purchasing new ones. On the other hand, this is very useful option for battery charge because it is provided from any USB port. Also, connecting with computer is facilitated by giving you option to choose how device will sign up to computer: as USB disc or as ActiveSync device.
If you cast a glance at battery capacity, you may have thought that autonomy is decent. Unfortunately this is one more aspect where Touch Diamond and Touch Pro fell short. For Touch Diamond you shouldn’t expect battery life more than 4 days under condition to use device as mobile phone and for Touch Pro not more than 5 days under same conditions. Usage of GPS, photo camera, media player and all other applications have additional negative influence on autonomy. Simply put, phenomenal screen from the beginning seems to be a big bite that’s tough to swallow for battery with standard capacity.
