Exterior design
8045C-3R is designed to allow fast and easy replacement of any component. That specially applies to hard disks and 8045C-3R has 5 HDD racks. Even fans on back are hot-swappable. Case of this server is massive and big. Whole server is powered by two 1200W PSUs that are also hot-swappable. If both Power Supply Units are operational they share load but if one of them stops working other is fully capable to power whole server by itself. There is even place for another (third) PSU. Simply put: Super Micro predicted every possible problem and designed this server with stability and longevity in mind.

Performances and real life applications
It is hard to use standard set of benchmarks to measure performances of this kind of server. Choice for synthetic performances benchmark was Everest while for real life application benchmark 7zip was used.
As expected, 8045C-3R didn’t do well in test that depend on memory bandwidth. Everest performances are not great but remember that this server uses 533 and 667 memory standards. Of course that in well optimized software it can use all potentials of 24 cores and to perform great. One of those is 7zip that we used. One look at pictures with 7zip results is enough to get idea how this server is fast and powerful. You can compare performances compared to E8400 on 2.4 GHz. We used 7zip so you can run similar benchmark on your PC and compare results just to get a better perception of how fast this server is.
Main advantage of optimized server platform is that it allows 8445C-3R to use all its potentials. For example, last version of Everest wasn’t very well optimized. We contacted author of this benchmark and after three beta versions we were able to get results of immense processing power.
