Overclocking

Phenom II X4 955 is based on 45nm manufacturing process and Deneb core. This CPU is declared as 125W TDP at 3.2GHz just as previous model, Phenom II X4 940 that operated at 3GHz – for 200MHz lower frequency.

Sample that we got in our test lab achieved stable 3.9GHz. Frequencies of nortbridge went over 2800MHz so we came under impression that new 955 is slightly better material than 940 when it comes to overclocking. This wasn’t a surprise especially when we take into account the fact that AMD continually improves its manufacturing process. Differences are not that big which is not surprising because we are still dealing with initial C2 stepping. Like any other Black Edition CPU it is possible to raise multiplier or raise frequency of HTT link to achieve best overclocking results. During our overclock session we used Cooler Master V8 cooler and temperature never went above 48 degrees Celsius with all four cores fully loaded.
