ImageIntel has finally released promised driver update for its G965 Express chipset. New driver adds support for hardware vertex processing resulting with better game compatibility and performance boost in games such as Battlefield 2, Call of Duty 2 and Far Cry.

New driver is available only for Windows XP users with Windows Vista version coming out soon. Please notice that there will not be any performance increase for G31 / G33 chipsets since those do not support hardware T&L capability. ImageAccording to Net Applications, market share firm specialized in browsers, operating systems and search engines, Windows Vista continued steady growth in June and accounted for 4.52% of all systems that browsed the Web. At the same time, number of Apple Mac OS users declined from 6.46% in May to 6.22% in June. Such results could be explained by the fact that fewer Mac users are browsing the Web (unlikely), enjoying one-month summer holidays while taking the photos and listening to the music (Apple-style) or by the fact that delay of Leopard's release affected Apple more than they could anticipate.

ImageAccording to the report by CNET, Microsoft is planning to ship its next major version of Windows within roughly three years. Despite Microsoft's promises about shorter development cycle, development of Windows 7 (formerly known as Vienna) could take as much as time as Vista did. Microsoft is planning to ship Windows 7 in 32-bit and 64-bit versions, with a subscription model being considered.

If three years is too much of waiting, you could always opt for Apple's 18-month update or some of the Linux distributions there are updated on monthly basis.
