We did expect Futuremark to come up with this first, but guys from Unigine beat them big time with 'Heaven', the first-ever DirectX 11 benchmark. As one of our colleagues pointed out, it is not technically first DirectX 11 application with benchmark feature with Battleforge and their built in benchmark, but it is first dedicated one.
Build on the Unigine engine, Heaven has support not only for DirectX 11
but also for DX 9, 10, OpenGL, as well as for the ATI Eyefinity
multi-monitor technology, and judging from their website includes the
following:
- Comprehensive use of tessellation technology
- Advanced SSAO (screen-space ambient occlusion)
- Volumetric cumulonimbus clouds generated by a physically accurate algorithm
- Dynamic simulation of changing environment with high physical fidelity
- Interactive experience with fly/walk-through modes
Tessellation ON / OFF
If you happen to have Windows 7 installed and one of AMD's Radeon HD
5000 series cards, be sure to see this page and download the 1.0
version of the Heaven Benchmark. Even if you don't have a DirectX 11
compatible hardware and software, you can enjoy new benchmark as it is
very configurable.
As you can see from the picture (mouse over is key word here)
difference is dramatic. Unfortunately, despite promises from different
sides, it comes with a price, with average FPS down to 50% when
tessellation is on.
